When hiring a company to apply fertilizer and weed control to your lawn, one should always be sure that the company is licensed to apply these products commercially. Whatcom Lawns, Inc. is fully licensed and insured as a pesticide applicator. We have certified applicators in the field. We study and implement all governing rules and regulations related to the application of lawn care chemicals.
Properly fertilizing your grass is one of the most important tasks required to develop a thick green lawn.
Our four-step program is as follows:
- Early Spring Fertilizer and Weed Control
A complete balance of dry slow-release fertilizer for fast green-up and broad leaf control.
- Hot Summer Fertilizer and Weed Control
A complete balance of dry slow-release fertilizer and broad leaf control.
- Summer Fertilizer and Weed Control
A complete balance of fertilizer and broad leaf control.
- Fall Fertilizer & Weed Control
A complete balance of dry winter feeding fertilizer (promotes root development) and broad leaf control.
Fertilization applications come every two months starting in April. Fertilizer is applied with a broadcast spreader. We use a slow release fertilizer; it releases over a period of three months. Applying every two months provides the lawn with a bit of overlap to keep it from stressing out. After fertilization, it is very important to apply water for no less than 25 minutes every other day for sandy soil in the summer months, and 15 minutes every other day for clay soils in the summer months.
The weed control is applied using a wet application, usually applied with a back pack sprayer. The intent is to spot spray weeds. If the lawn is well maintained, spot spraying is all that is needed. Initially (in a lawn covered with weeds) a blanket application is applied using a boom sprayer or our ride on spreader/sprayer.
